The level of detail that has been put into the animation of the characters' movements should be commended, it's just mind-boggling.
Chrono Cross is the direct sequel to the legendary and critically acclaimed Chrono Trigger, a game that is held -and placed – at the highest of pedestals for RPG gamers. Comparisons are invited, but not necessarily deserved.
Unlike most RPGs, you can choose which spells to equip and use in battle. No part of this site or its content may be reproduced without the permission of the copyright holder. Whilst the game is tied closely to Chrono Trigger and players who have played through the first adventure will definitely get a lot more out of the game than those who haven't, the story still stands well on its own. Here's hoping for a remake (ha), or a sequel (ha ha).
Sadly- not playable on PS3...>??? Graphically, "Chrono Cross" is nothing short of stunning. This game was from my childhood and I vaguely understood it then, replaying it, everything makes more sense, I know all there is to know about the spinoffs and prequels though it would have been nice if those things were more connected than having the same items or a quick mention of the Radical Dreamers. While Square's Final Fantasy is glossy and polished, Chrono Cross has an organic feel lacking in … I got away from it, and never did finish it.
Leveling up in the game is somewhat easy since the battles are so fun; I pretty much fought with each enemy in every area at least once during my 38 hours of playing it. The game has completely lived up to every expectation that I had for it and has even surpassed them in many ways. Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features. So, have a lot of colored elements in the level 1 and 2 slots in the grids of your party.). The stupidest part about all of this is that you can only have three characters in battle at a time so you won’t even be using over half these characters. This site © 2020 Gamer Network Limited. In fact, when I beat the game the first time after 38 hours of play, I only had two slots available in my level 8 elemental grid for then game’s main character, Serge. A truly epic role-playing game experience that has cemented its place in the annals of RPG history. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, what we really want will always be out of reach. Musically, Chrono Cross hasn’t found its match except maybe in Trigger. Never miss a thing. It’s unfortunate that Chrono Cross might be the last Chrono game that will feature Mitsuda as a composer (he now works with Namco in their Xenosaga games.)
In fact, I will dare say that Uematsu for all of his greatness has never really composed such a consistently great score for any of the FF games (Maybe FFVI and FFVII could be the exceptions ). The story never really starts, nor does it truly go anywhere. The only negative that can be said about the game's graphics is that players will encounter some slowdown when running around towns.
However, these in-depth events aren’t delved upon enough and don’t give much to go on either.
We’re expected to believe that she’s just being innocently deceived into doing these actions by a villain in the story but that ignores a very fine detail: she tries to bomb refugees fleeing from a war. It really just means you have to click the attack button three times instead of just once for normal enemies to go down. Yasunori Mitsuda should be credited with crafting a brilliant score that does wonders in stirring the emotional strings of the players as they're playing through the game.
I feel those that sleight the story didn't quite understand it. How many normal attacks you accurately hit on an opponent determine the level of spells you can cast and there is no restraint to stop you from using your strongest spells all the time in this framework. A great game, and a classic, unfortunately because the overall rating in the never ending realm places great emphasis on plot, which is simply very good in Chrono Cross, as opposed to great, the score here takes a hit.
After the first dungeon, I went back to playing on my Playstation 1 and the problem appeared to stop.
He’s a silent protagonist and just doesn’t mesh with his environment or the story. Though with all the character side quests the story gets a bit bogged down and lost in translation. The player is simply expected to believe that one person has all the right answers and ignore the implications of human rights crimes.
The morality of the game seems to just be agreeing with anything and everything the heroine’s horribly broken ideology says is right. To create armor and weaponry you must find raw materials to forge them.

At least with other PS1 Squaresoft titles, it keeps hold of the player’s interest with mystery and character growth but unfortunately this game utterly fell flat in that regard. The game itself followed Chrono Trigger's lead in many regards, with no random battles to be found, and a complex plot revolving around parallel universes and time travel. The game's pre-rendered 3D backgrounds are an example of some of the best we've ever seen on PlayStation. This doesn't ever become a problem, though, and never interferes or lessens the quality of the game. Moving onto the story, I have read a lot of reviews stating that it is not necessary to have played Chrono Trigger before hand, in order to fully enjoy Chrono Cross… and there is a degree of truth to that statement.
