This is the version of our website addressed to speakers of English in the United States. At the bottom of the canyon, turn right onto Meadows Canyon Trail, near the Lone Oak Picnic area. Visitors can hike through the back-fort area to explore nature trails and remnants of the military era, participate in organized athletics or attend special events.
Although swimming is not permitted in this area, it remains a popular spot for fishing. Interesting seeing nature reclaiming old buildings (with the help of vandals ) .....some of the graffiti on the buildings is interesting....but a lot of it is. This is an easy trail that sees a lot of use on the weekends, mostly by families and people walking their dogs. Workers from the Works Progress Administration built much of the park’s infrastructure during the Great Depression. Fort Tilden, which is located next to Jacob Riis Park in Queens, is the only military attraction within the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. Wildcat Gorge, Meadows Canyon and Curran Trail, Upper and Lower Big Springs and Seaview Trails, Upper Big Springs, Seaview, and Quarry Trails Loop, Wildcat Peak Trail via Laurel Canyon and Sylvan Trail, Meadows Canyon, Wildcat Gorge and Curran Trail Loop.

Visitors can still walk or bike here from elsewhere. Accessibility: The trail surface is paved and it is typically at least five feet wide. Trail Directions: Park at Lake Anza Parking lot; if closed, use the gravel overflow lot outside the gate.

This scenic loop takes you from the Tilden Park Environmental Education Center to the summit of Wildcat Peak via the Jewel Lake, Sylvan, Peak and Laurel Canyon trails. The bad news it has been discovered. From what I've gathered, the beach at Fort Tilden is used primarily by surf cast fisherman who purchase a permit from the Parks Department which allows them to park somewhat near the water. This is a great family-friendly trail that can be completed in a couple of hours.

Tilden’s 2,079 acres feature the iconic carousel, steam train, botanical gardens, Little Farm, Environmental Education Center, redwood groves, picturesque views of the bay, picnic areas, and seasonal swimming at Lake Anza. Personally, I suggest a bike. The beach is sunny (on a sunny day) and lively (in the summer) and a perfect day out on the beach, but it is a walk to get to where you want to go, I suggest bring back packs or something to carry your food, Yes we have visit first fort wardworth Staten island then we decided to go to fort Tilden.

Some parts are a bit technical, but it offers a nice view of the lake and connects with the Selby Trail along with a few others.
